Grandma Kaeb visits

My mom was able to use her voucher to get a last minute plane ticket to come visit us after Kaeb was born. She was an amazing housekeeper in my stead (maybe even better!) and spoiled us with her baking, cooking, cleaning, & laundering. We even got some helpful instructions on washing and line drying baby clothes, including diapers b/c yes, we are going the route of cloth diapers for economical reasons :)

I was a little bit overwhelmed & sad seeing Mom and all of her positive encouragement & help leave, but as she gently said, after two weeks it was time for the three of us to get a routine established and becoming a family unit! Thanks, Mom, for all your patient teaching and caring for us!

Kaeb William Coughlin, After bath, Day 5

Kaeb got his 3rd sponge bath today and this time he hardly even whimpered! We're learning some tricks as well, such as keeping his baby room warm enough for my husband to call it a sauna :) He made beautiful eye contact with us through the whole endeavor and we hope this means he's learning to trust us! It's such a joy as we learn to role-model to Kaeb God's own patient, sacrificial love for us!

We took advantage of Kaeb's cute new overalls from Grandma K and a sunny day to capture some more shots of our handsome little boy! My mom even took a family snapshot for us! Kaeb is doing well and learning to adapt to lots of changes over his short three days! He is such a miracle and we thank God for him every moment!!

Mom & Dad C Visit

Mom & Dad C split Mom's week of winter break from school with us and Matt & Laura. We got the first leg of their trip and had a wonderful time relaxing with them, walking around Magdalena (and shopping!), and introductions were made out at CVE.

On Tuesday morning we got an exciting phone call from Matt & Laura to tell us that baby Noah Frederick had arrived. It was an exciting day and we got to meet him over skype. Lucky for them they were heading to Virginia the next day and would get to meet him in person! Congrats Matt & Laura and welcome to the family, little Noah! We're looking forward to meeting Noah ourselves someday and our own phone call about his new cousin!

Note: Dad was a much more faithful photographer during their time here so 80% of these photos are his; enjoy seeing our world through his viewpoint :) Thanks, Dad, for letting us share your photos!

Joan's 50th Birthday

Joan Schick, who plays the much appreciated mom and grandma role to so many of us here in Magdalena, turned 50 this year. Her daughters Lilly and Katie hosted a backyard tea party so we could all celebrate with her. In the evening we celebrated once again with all of CVE and she was gifted with the traditional mordida! Happy 50th Birthday, Joan :)

Ernie & Mary visit

Ernie & Mary, church friends of ours from Michigan, made an overnight trip south of the border to visit CVE and us. They brought with them Mary's sister Lois and her husband Ron from Kiowa, KS. They treated us and Stephanie Bahr, another fellow Kansan, to lunch at Chiltepinos. Thanks for making time for us!

Changes on Campus

While my husband helped set up the new computers in the escuelita, I walked around campus and caught on film the changes going on. I also captured some of the staff and children enjoying the beautiful outdoors.

Every once in a while we find a folder of photos that got missed or a memory card that didn't get transferred to our computer, as is the case with these photos of Tristyn's Kaeb birthday party ! She turned 8 on December 30th!

Happy Belated Birthday pictures, Tristyn :) It sure was fun to be able to celebrate with you! You look just as cute in that blue hat as we guessed you would--hope you're getting some good use out of it! We love you!

Vday cookies with Alexia & babysitting Zulema's kids

Alexia came over and helped me make cutout cookies for valentine's day this week. We had lots of fun together and she's a good helper for me with Spanish!

We also babysat Zulema's kids one evening on behalf of Joan and we got to read lots of Spanish kids' books!
