Doña Rosa kindly offered to teach us how she roasts coffee beans. Her recipe is 1 kilogram of green coffee beans and 1 kilo of sugar, roasted over a wood fire. We had so much fun watching her and the kids enjoyed taste-testing the beans (which were yummy!) and helping grind the beans with her family heirloom grinder. She is so sweet and gifted us the grinder after we finished grinding all the coffee with the promise to use it and share some with her when we make it. What an honor to be gifted something that we can tell meant a lot to her. We'll do our best to keep alive the Mexican tradition of roasting and grinding coffee beans by hand with our kids here at CVE. Her grandson Manuel assisted in the process as well as Eduardo and Alexia.
